A native of Oklahoma, born in Blackwell, Robert “Bob” Jackman was among the first graduates under Oklahoma State University after the school’s name was changed from Oklahoma A&M College (OAMC) in 1957. Jackman graduated from OSU with a B.S. in Geology.
During his college days, Jackman helped pay for his education through a bootlegging enterprise he started while living in North Murray Hall spanning two semesters. Having no car, he often hitchhiked back and forth from his hometown of Miami, Oklahoma. His experiences at OSU helped spark a passion for Somalia. A noted expert on the area, he served as an advisor to the U.S. State Department regarding that region.
Jackman is currently a petroleum geologist in addition to being an activist for Oklahoma water conservation. He has two children.
