C.A. Cofer was born in Fairview, Oklahoma. He attended Woodward High School before enrolling in Oklahoma A&M College starting in 1949. Cofer graduated with a degree in Animal Husbandry in 1953. While at OAMC, he was involved with the Rodeo team and Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity.
C.A. and his wife, Joan have three children. He resides in Wichita Kansas.
